I tried learning English like I was traveling using Canva.
This time, we will be looking at the “Egypt Edition” of the November issue (2025) of NHK Radio’s “English Conversation Time Trial.”
I enjoyed Steve's lighthearted exchanges and the exotic atmosphere of the situation.
Before you know it "It's like traveling through Egypt." It feels like that.

I want to record this excitement as well.
With that in mind, I used Canva to create an Egyptian-inspired Instagram post that captures the essence of the world.

The pyramids, Tutankhamun, the Nile...
Even everyday English phrases can be made more fun by simply changing the way you approach them!

In this blog, I will be sharing the phrases I learned in the Egypt chapter, the designs I created on Instagram,
Here are some tips to make learning English more fun!

For those who want to make learning English more fun and continue for a long time.
So, let's embark on a "trip to Egypt and learning English" together! 🕌✨

What is NHK's "English Conversation Time Trial"?

NHK's "English Conversation Time Trial" is a popular NHK Radio program that helps you improve your speaking skills in just 10 minutes a day.

The performers' teachers

The class will be fun with the instructor, Steve Soresi, his partner, Jenny, and our conversation partner every Friday, Sadah.
(Your conversation partner will vary depending on your destination. From August to November, you will be taught by Sadah, a Turkish teacher.)

A page introducing the cast of NHK's "English Conversation Time Trial" and learning methods for SPR training and conversational karaoke.

Effective learning methods

Using the textbook, you can progress through your weekly studies as follows:

  • Monday to Wednesday: Express the given Japanese question in English within the time limit
    (SPR = explosive power training)
  • Thursday: Practice consolidating, writing, and responding based on what was learned on Monday through Wednesday.
  • Friday: Practical conversation challenge with a teacher and conversation partner, imagining a situation

Even if you use an expression that you think is "this!", Steve will predict the answer.
Sometimes they will add additional comments such as, "Actually, we don't use this expression very often. This one conveys the nuance better." This will make you think, "I see👍️!" and you'll learn a lot✨️

This time's learning theme: The charm of Egypt

I wanted to experience the charm of Egypt more deeply.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs dataI've put together some basic information about Egypt on one page, based on the above information.

エジプトの基礎データ(面積・人口・首都・公用語・宗教)に加え、大エジプト博物館、ピラミッド、スフィンクス、ナイル川、エジプト通貨の写真を組み合わせたインフォグラフィックバナー。
Based on data from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we have compiled basic information about Egypt on one page.

November 2025 Egypt Edition

  • The setting for the November issue is "A Trip to Egypt"
Nile River Cruise, Grand Egyptian Museum, and Pyramids ✈️
  • Desert, ruins, tours and a cultural scene
The phrase "It's a movie about ancient Egypt"
Speaking of which,The MummyIt's interesting that the series was set in Egypt, which brings back memories.
(As of November 5, 2025, there is news that the fourth installment of "The Mummy" is in the works!)
The Mummy movie series is also set in Egypt,
It might be interesting to use this as a topic for learning English!
  • “This is sure to excite anyone who loves "travel x English"!
"What should I say in this situation?" is within reach✨️

English Conversation Time Trial Week 1 | I made an Instagram review reel!

I wanted to create a video that was fun and easy to review.

Below is a summary of the still images 👇

💡 Summary

・The English in the Egypt chapter is fun and has lots of travel phrases.
・All the phrases introduced in the reel can be used when traveling
・Creating a worldview with Canva makes it easier to continue reviewing

Phrases learned in week 13 selections

Week 1 will feature over 30 phrases from Monday to Wednesday alone 😊📋️
Among them, here are three phrases that will be useful when traveling!

“I dropped it somewhere around there…”

"I dropped it somewhere around there."

→ This is a phrase you'll use a lot when traveling, such as when asking for directions or explaining something you've lost!

“Recently, I've been into ancient Egyptian art.”

"I've been hooked on ancient Egyptian art lately."

→ When you think of "interested," you might think of "be interested in~," but this expression is more commonly used when recommending a product✨️
So we use the expression "be into~". Wow~💡

“Thankfully, someone from my tour group found my phone.”

"Luckily, my tour buddy found my phone."

→ This is extremely useful when you run into trouble! It's a good idea to remember it!

How I created an “Egyptian world” using Canva

Using Canva, you can easily create posts that make learning English feel like a trip.
In this chapter, I'll show you what I did to make it work.

英会話タイムトライアル11月号エジプト編、SPRチャレンジ第2問『古代エジプトの美術にハマっています』の問題を表示したInstagramリール画像
SPR Challenge Question 2: I'm obsessed with ancient Egyptian art.

Speaking of ancient Egypt, I'd like to include the sacred characters "hieroglyphs"
What is the Nile River really like? I put a photo in the center to make it easier to imagine.
I also thought it might be interesting to include some Egyptian trivia💡! So I included that too👇️

ツタンカーメンの黄金のマスクと “QUICK TIPS” の文字。1922年に発見された王墓が3000年以上ほぼ無傷だったという説明が書かれたインフォグラフィック。
Tutankhamun's tomb was discovered in 1922 and is said to have remained virtually untouched for over 3,000 years.

When I was a student, I remember writing my name in hieroglyphics on the self-introduction page of my tennis club (lol).
Provided by Kyushu National MuseumThe "Hieroglyphic Alphabet Table"“ I also uploaded it 📝
You can even write your name in hieroglyphics, which is fun!
This is a resource that you can play while learning, so if you're interested, be sure to check it out!
The materials from the Kyushu National Museum are super cute, so please take a look!

Tips for continuing to study English

Everyone has their own reasons for wanting to learn a foreign language.
"I want to help someone who's lost," "I feel so cool when I speak a foreign language," "I want to experience the nuances of English sentences in their original form without having to translate them into Japanese," etc. I completely understand those feelings. The hardest part is figuring out how to keep that fire burning in your heart (laughs). First of all, you have to find the motivation yourself.

First, why not try brushing your teeth for 10 minutes for a week so that it becomes as natural as possible?

If you can complete one week, you can continue for another week and reach 14 days🔥

And 21 days in a week🔥🔥. In order for people to make something a habit,It is important to continue for 21 daysApparently so. (※)

*Proposal of the law: Psychologist Maxwell Maltz, in his bookPsycho-cyberneticsIt is said that he proposed this in his book ``The Theory of the Human Body'' (1960).

Let's try it first🗒️✨️

Once you try it, you'll know if it's interesting for you and whether it's worth continuing. If it feels different, you can quit. If you wonder what's different, it might be a matter of your level.

📌 What you can do today after reading this article

If you can do just one of these things, it will be a sure step towards the future of English learning.
Small steps lead to big growth later on.

  • Be able to say one phrase from the Egypt chapter
  • Find out your level with the Cambridge Level Check
  • Create your own worldview post with Canva

Next planAnnouncement

A review video for Week 2 will be released soon.

The themes include "I lost something important!", "What was the last thing you saw?", and "The thing you lost has a certain characteristic.". Look forward to it💕

summary

This post was about reviewing Week 1 of the November 2025 issue of NHK English Time Trial. Did you enjoy it?

As I work on it,

What kind of country is Egypt?
What kind of culture is there?
What are one-humped and two-humped camels called?
What is the design of the currency? Is it true that the price is different for foreign tourists and locals?

And so on, more and more questions arise 🥰

Let's learn English together while feeling like you're traveling!
I also post on Instagram. I also see posts from people who have the hashtag "# English Conversation Time Trial." I might follow you back.
At that time, thank you for your support 🌸
